Ozan Ojal YUNUS

It is with great sadness that I write this to tell you that on 30th December 2013 my dearest friend Ozan Yunus passed away from Streptococcuss Pneumoniae Meningitis at the age of just 28 years.  Sadly the illness accelerated very quickly and lead to his death.
Ozan joined the senior school in 1997 and left in 2004 after completing his A-Levels.  He went on to study Geography at Leeds University.  At the time of his death he was very happily working as a teacher in Leesons Primary School, St. Mary’s Cray.  The testimonies from his students after his death show the huge impact he had on their lives in a short period of time.
Even nine years after having left school, Ozan was a huge part of mine and many other former students’ lives.  The one description of him that almost everyone gives when hearing of this sad news is that Ozan was “genuinely the nicest, most generous person they knew”.  A lot of his lovely character was due to the love given him by his father Ojal, mother Sandra, sister Yaz as well as his friends.  However, his years at Eltham College also formed a large part of his life and undoubtedly played a part in the man he became.  Ozan also spent his gap year working in the wood shop in the Design and Technology suite at Eltham.
